About the Honors Program
Wake Tech’s Honors Program is:
- Open to students seeking the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degrees, as well as to students currently taking college transfer classes with the goal of earning a Bachelor's degree at a college or university
- Committed to motivating students to succeed to their fullest potential as they seek to transfer to competitive colleges and universities
- Designed to provide a challenging educational environment for students who have achieved a high level of academic success
Wake Tech’s Honors Program was established on the Northern Wake Campus in the Spring 2008 semester. Honors Program-designated courses are offered on the Main Campus, the Northern Wake Campus, the Western Wake Campus, and via online delivery.
Eligibility
To satisfy the GPA admission requirements for Wake Tech’s Honors Program, a student must meet ONE of the following three criteria:
- Students newly graduated from high school
3.3 cumulative unweighted high school GPA
- Current Wake Tech students
3.3 cumulative GPA from completed college level course work (For students who choose not to include their high school GPA as part of the application, the student must have completed 12 hours of college level course work).
- First semester transfer students from other universities and colleges

If you are interested in applying for the Honors Program, but are uncertain if your academic records to date meet one of the above three GPA admissions criteria, please contact one of the Honors Program Directors.
Once admitted to the Honors Program, to remain in Good Standing, Honors Program students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 at Wake Tech (for all college level courses).
Participation in the Honors Program
Each fall and spring semester, the student will:
- Enroll in designated Honors Option courses, in which Honors Program students contract with instructors to complete special assignments and projects in addition to regular coursework.
- Participate in a volunteer service project on campus or in the community, approximately 6 to 8 hours in length.
- Have opportunities to assume leadership roles within the classroom and on campus.
Honors Seminar courses are periodically offered. These are course sections reserved exclusively for Honors Program students. Seminar courses are organized and designed such that students will complete assignments and course work at a level often expected of students taking upper-level university courses.
Benefits of Participation
- Receive official notation on the student’s college transcript for having completed Honors Program-designated courses. To be eligible for this transcript notation, student must maintain a cumulative 3.3 GPA as well as complete the Honors Program participation requirements.
- Receive a “Certificate of Course Completion” at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, listing specific Honors Program-designated courses completed by the student.
- Upon graduation from Wake Tech, receive official college wide recognition affirming successful participation in the Honors Program.
- Gain an edge in transferring to competitive colleges and universities.
- Honors Program students in Good Standing enjoy the privilege of early registration at Wake Tech for upcoming semesters.
- Participate in Honors Program functions in which students will meet and interact with senior college administration.
- Upon request, Honors Program directors will provide letters documenting student success in the Honors Program.
Application Process and Deadline
- Select the “Application Components Checklist" button and the “Honors Program Application Form” button for detailed information about the application procedure and to access the application form.
- Prospective Honors Program students are required to complete and submit an application for admission to Wake Technical Community College. The Wake Tech application should be submitted directly to the Admissions Office before you apply for admission to the Honors Program.
- Honors Program applications and all required supporting materials should be received 30 days before the first date of the semester for which you are applying. While students may submit applications and required supporting materials later than this “30 days before start of semester” standard, the college may need to defer the processing of these applications to the following semester.
- There is no fee to apply to the Honors Program.
